CHILDREN'S WORKSHOP - TOYS

Sunday 8 August, 2pm-4.30pm

Local photographer and parent Sarah Garrod invites your children (aged 8-13 years) to bring a toy or doll to photograph to the Viewfinder. First, we'll meet the toys and talk about their visual features and how they might be photographed. Sarah will show some examples of other photographs of toys, talking about simple concepts of scale, light, shade, background, perspective, and making a photo of an inanimate object interesting. You will then have an opportunity to roam around Greenwich for an hour, taking interesting photographs of toys. Sarah will give suggestions and advice while you're out on location. Back at the gallery, the children will select their favourite 10-15 images which will be projected in the room. We will review and discuss the photos as a group. Each child can select three images to be published on the Viewfinder website.

This is a great opportunity for children to produce humorous and creative images, with their much loved toys - it should be a lot of fun! It will also give children the chance to think about photographing toys before our upcoming exhibition Miniatures, in which photographers use miniature models as part of their series.

To see recent children's workshops, see Children's portraiture workshop, Make Your Mark, with Pendragon School, Lustrabotas, with Charter School, and Amazingness.

This workshop is free, funded by Grassroots Grants and the Capital Community Foundation. We can lend you a point-and-shoot camera if you don't have one, just let us know.

Spaces are limited to ten children (with an accompanying parent / guardian). Booking is essential, email louise@viewfinder.org.uk to reserve your space.

INSPIRED: MEMBERS' THEMES

Get involved with our first ever series of Inspired!

Ever wish you could see how other photographers respond to ideas that interest you? Email us an idea for a theme for other members to interpret as they wish - this can relate to areas of your own practice, or just something that's caught your eye recently. Give us as much detail as you'd like - it would be inspiring for other members to be pointed to websites / other photographers exploring similar ideas. We'll choose one theme per month, and invite contributions from members - photographs they already have, or photographs taken especially for this.

Slideshows of Inspired: Members' Themes can be viewed here.

This event is free, and only open to Viewfinder members.
