Phil Clarke-Hill photographs Lustrabotas, the hundreds of shoe shine boys who work and live on the streets of La Paz, Bolivia. The boys sell a street newspaper, wearing a mask while doing so to protect their dignity. These photographs operate both as social documentary and art photography. Part of Photomonth 08, the largest photography festival in the UK. Exhibition catalogue £9.95 Available from the Viewfinder shop, click here.
Workshops We held two workshops alongside Lustrabotas – following a talk about the exhibition, students responded to key exhibition themes and took their own photographs. We met again in the gallery and discussed these photographs: Click here to see the workshop with Charter School –students took street portraits, focusing on interesting backgrounds and unusual angles. Click here to see the workshop with Kings College Photography Society – students took photographs incorporating themes of street trade, candid portraits and disguised identities. |
