Inspired: Members' Themes
Get involved with our first ever series of Inspired!
Ever wish you could see how other photographers respond to ideas that interest you? Email us an idea for a theme for other members to interpret as they wish - this can relate to areas of your own practice, or just something that's caught your eye recently. Give us as much detail as you'd like - it would be inspiring for other members to be pointed to websites / other photographers exploring similar ideas. We'll choose one theme per month, and invite contributions from members - photographs they already have, or photographs taken especially for this.

To celebrate the Open Salon 2010 and Showcase, with one photograph exhibited per person, we invited you to email us your favourite all-time photograph. No theme, no restrictions, just your favourite photograph - from your portfolio or from your fridge door!

Members' challenge: a creative kickstart with a twist
We set a secret theme over six months and gave members a different clue each
month, to interpret and photograph in any way they liked.
One winning image was displayed on the members' gallery each month, and all entries were published on a dedicated web page (see below) and the winner of each month's clue was invited to select the next winner.

Despite some inspired guesses about what linked the clues, it bamboozled everyone! The clues related to flowers: Remember This! was a forget-me-not; Looking at Light was an iris; Animal Clothes was a foxglove; Soporific / Sleepy was camomile; Yellow Containers was a buttercup. Obvious once you know!
More importantly, the challenge encouraged members to take photographs regularly, with unpredictable sources of inspiration. Members took photographs they might not have others, and stepped outside their creative comfort zone - thank you to everyone who took part.
